Supercritical CO2 Extraction

Supercritical CO2 extraction is the process of separating one component (the extractant) from another (the matrix) using supercritical fluids - CO2 as the extracting solvent. Lab1st SFE-series supercritical CO2 extractor can yield safer, cleaner, and purer oil from botanical plant material. It has been used in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.

CO2 extraction applies with the method of pressurized carbon dioxide at a selected temperature and pressure to get the desired compounds. Under the special temperature and pressure (temperature higher than 31 Celsius degrees, and pressure higher than 1071PSI), CO2 steps into a supercritical state. Carbon dioxide becomes a supercritical fluid after that with low viscosity and no interfacial tension, thus improving its capacity for solubility and therefore achieving higher efficiency of extraction. These properties make it suitable for many different processes.

How it works


1. Fill cannabis to the chamber

2. CO2 comes into the supercritical state under the optimal temperature and pressure.

3. The supercritical CO2 dissolves the cannabis.

4. The liquid containing cannabis oil will be delivered to the seperator by supercritical CO2.

5. Supercritical CO2 reverts back to gas and distracts from the liquid due to lower pressue in the seperator.

6. CO2 gas is driven to the tank for storage and further use.

7.Canabis oil and other substances fall into the seperator's bottom.

8. The oil and compounds are going to be stored in a vessel and for the next step of treatment.
